Requesting a Transfer
Many of our tenants will want at some time to move to different accommodation. We have policies in relation to the priority given to transfers and we will try and give you some idea of how long you will have to make if you make an application to transfer.
Demand for housing in London is much greater than supply. This is particularly the case for larger family homes (3 bed and upwards), where the Association has a long list of people to seeking transfer.
It is always worth approaching the local authority to see if they can help with a transfer.
At the time that a letting is made, the property size is suitable for the tenant and the number of tenants moving in.The Association cannot guarantee a suitable transfer where the tenants situation changes, no matter how deserving the case that can be made.
Options are available to move out of London, and larger accommodation can often be secured with a very short waiting time if you are willing to consider this.
Other options include arranging your own mutual exchange.
Transfer options for existing Christian Action Housing tenantsThe Association operates a Choice Based Lettings scheme to allocate vacant properties to tenants who are on the rehousing waiting list. This scheme is designed to offer tenants more choice about where they live and make the rehousing process easier to understand. Choice based lettings schemes are running across London and they have proved very popular with tenants.
Available properties are advertised on a website which is run by our partners, Home Connections, and via a flyer which is posted to tenants who are eligible for the particular size of accommodation. The advertising includes details of the property, such as size and rent amount, photographs and information on local services and amenities.
Applicants who are informed of an available property are then able to ‘bid’ for the property should they choose to, either by telephone or via the Home Connections website, within a certain set time called the ‘bidding period’. At the end of the bidding period, the bidder with the most points will be offered the property. Please note that when we use the term ‘bid’ you are not bidding with money as on e-Bay but you are using your housing needs priority points to ‘bid’.
